A Thousand Feet Deep

By Periplum

An immersive outdoor performance spectacular exploring the history of Knowsley Borough, this 50-minute performance took audiences of 7,000 on an atmospheric journey through myths, modern day legends and folklore. Periplum worked with communities across 9 towns & villages to gather stories & memories with the themes of magic, power & invention.

An epic poem weaving real life with the power of imagination, this original narrative also celebrated the area’s industries and tales of the people that powered them: from the quarries and mines that lay beneath the performance site to the future-dreamers driving Halewood. A Thousand Feet Deep celebrated inspirational figures including sports stars, writers and social campaigners, on the football field, in the boxing ring, the cinema and political arena.

“We are delighted that so many people from across the borough and beyond turned out to see this incredible performance, and the feedback we have had has been astounding.”
